NHL Showcases KINEXON Sports Technology at Scouting Combine

KINEXON Sports technology took center stage at the NHL Scouting Combine in Buffalo. 104 NHL hopefuls not only got the chance to make a good impression on all 31 NHL teams, they were also exposed to sports performance software for the first time.

The 2018 NHL Scouting Combine left no stone unturned, and KINEXON Sports was honored to be a part of it.

Apart from medical examinations and interviews, there were 12 physical tests, trying the participants’ balance, functional movements, strength, performance, endurance and agility. 

KINEXON Sports provided insights at the agility test, the so called shuttle run”. Athletes were tracked doing a 5105 drill on a hard court located in the hockey rink.

Tracking Player Accelerations and Decelerations

Hockey players use the NHL Scouting combine a way to break into the league by showcases their skills to all of the teams at once.

NHL Teams Starting to Rely on Sports Data

The 2018 NHL Scouting Combine provided hockey hopefuls with the chance to earn a sport on one of the 31 teams in the league.

The data was for NHL staff only but was shown live on the NHL network. It was used as part of the evaluation of the athletes for the upcoming NHL draft.

Providing Hockey Analytics for Elite Teams

Aside from assisting with scouting combine, KINEXON Sports offers two types of systems for hockey: a live player tracking system (LPS) that uses radio frequency sensors to capture real-time data on player position, speed, distance, and more, and a mobile load management system (IMU) that uses inertial measurement units to measure player acceleration, deceleration, and directional shifts.
