How Does Performance Data Help to Increase Performance Within a Few Months?

After promotion to the Swiss National League in 2018, the SC Rapperswil-Jona Lakers ice hockey team stagnated in last place in the table for two seasons. In 2020 – 21, they gave up the red lantern and found themselves in 10th place at the end of the season. The breakthrough came the following year. Read an insight into the story behind it here.

Performance improvement — one of KINEXON’s core objectives

With our tracking systems, we support numerous professional teams worldwide on their way to top performance. In doing so, our analysis tools help athletic trainers to compare data from different training sessions and players to identify remaining weak points so that they can then be specifically trained.

The function of this method has proven itself time and again with many top teams — most recently with our ice hockey client.

SC Rapperswil-Jona Lakers — a look at the team’s latest season proves the facts

After their promotion to the National League in 2018, the team stagnated in last place in the standings for two seasons. In the 2020 – 2021 season, they were able to relinquish the red lantern and find themselves in 10th place at the end of the season.

A real breakthrough came the following year when the team from St. Gallen reached the playoffs in the recently concluded season and finished in fourth place — the club’s greatest success since 1996! Since the 2020 – 2021 season they have been a KINEXON customer and user of the PERFORM LPS.

Coincidence? We don’t think so because the improvement of the players is measured by us in numbers. For example, in the first ten games of the 2021 – 2022 season, each player covered 67.4 more meters in average per game than in the first ten games of the previous season.

In addition, the number of sprints also increased by an average of 3.7 per game and player. These also had a higher average speed of 0.43 km/h.

KINEXON helps us quantify our training sessions and games on the ice. Thus, we are able to track the physical development of our team or each individual player. This allows us to make our training sessions on and off the ice more effective, specific and individualized depending on the development of the players.

Thomas Weber, Head of Off-Ice Training at SC Rapperswil-Jona Lakers

The effect of tracking in improving performance is reflected in the recent results of SC Rapperswil-Jona Lakers. So, the cooperation with KINEXON is a complete success — in every respect.
